HOW TO BECOME A DOCTOR IN CAMEROON

I have come across many that want to become a Medical Doctors in Cameroon but do not know how to go about it so I thought it wise to bring it to you. 

 I will love to clear out two things before I begin. Firstly, In Cameroon, to become a Doctor, you must have a science background unlike some western countries. Secondly, you cannot study Medicine in Cameroon by studying Biochemistry in the University.

Studying medicine is, regarded, as a tedious one all over the world with more years of studies than other departments and fields of studies and the paths to become a Medical Doctor in Cameroon is not similar to other Countries like the United States etc.

With updates writing to you in the year 2020, there are two pathways in becoming a medical doctor in Cameroon. These paths are, explained briefly below.

The first path is by writing a National Competitive Entrance Exam, a system that was, established since 2013 and is still in use today.  The number of years of studies are 7 straight years, divided into preclinical (3years) and clinicals (4 years)

A similar exam is written for those that are also interested in Pharmacy and Dentistry and it is, written at the same moment. To qualify as a candidate for this entrance exam, you must have passed in at list Biology and Chemistry Advanced level. The grades are, not fixed here. Candidates that succeed in this exam do not have to go in for orals. They just have to comply by reporting in the school were they were selected within the given period of time.

The second path is, often used by students that did not succeed in getting in using the normal method so they end up studying Biomedical Sciences in any University that offers it. After a successful completion of the degree program (usually 3 years), these individuals are then qualified to write the entrance into the fourth year of Medicine in any of the Faculties that allow it to be so in Cameroon. Note carefully that there are just two routes through which, you can study medicine in Cameroon as of now.
