HOW TO IMPROVE ON EXAM STRESS

HOW TO IMPROVE ON EXAM STRESS

Exams in almost all cases are stressful and very exhausting. You often feel tensed and feel like you have forgotten all what you have been reading or find it difficult to concentrate, we will help you tackle these challenges using the simplest strategies without using pills or caffeine and other substances that prevent sleep because these stuffs often have after effect that are not worth it. The following are few tips you can use to increase your performance.

No distraction
One cause of exam stress is distraction. This is because it shortens your time of focus and leads to low productivity at the end of the day. Your brain takes over and the fact that you have not accomplished your daily goals increases stress. So, when you want to study, look for an area that is not susceptible to distraction like a school environment, a room, and no cell phones when reading or you can decide to put your phone on flight mode and use the necessary apps that helps you study.

Study one subject at a time
Are you the type of person that tries studying multiple subjects or topics at a time, in as much as you want to multitask, it is important to note that the brain consumes a lot of glucose for its function and you will get very tired exercising your brain over multiple stuffs? This is because they all require attention and time to process the information so you can focus on one topic or subject learn it then move to the other. A better way to do that is to set a period for each subject or topic.

Make a flexible schedule
Do not worry too much. List out the task you are to accomplish each day and schedule a time to complete each task.  You will be more productive and more focused. You can do it for the days ahead. Plan your studying schedule ahead of time for the next 2-3 days and work on it.

Break is important
Don’t study like a robot. As I explained earlier, your brain uses a lot of energy and you may present with symptoms of tiredness at the end of the day this brings us to the next important point for the day. Take a break between subjects and within subjects. This helps your brain recover and relax so that it can be, stressed later. Breaks are important (some people take breaks every after 45 minutes of reading) it is a great idea to leave the room at this time.

Concentration Exercises
Concentration exercise like using a pen is important and helps you retain easily. They help you focus and creates a milestone and a blueprint that you can easily remember in the exam hall. Do not stick to using caffeinated products, as it is addictive.

Mnemonics and flowcharts
If you are the type that finds it difficult to assemble data, the Use of flow charts and mnemonics can be a good strategy to remember what you read better. I tried it out and it was great. For example, the zones of the adrenal cortex and their secretions can have the mnemonic: FC GARA. That is,
  •  F for zona Fasciculata that releases Cortisol
  • G for zona Glumerulosa that releases Aldosterone
  • R for zona Reticularis that releases Androgens.
Choosing a mnemonic depends on you and how easily you, can remember the words. I selected GARA because I was a Naruto fan and FC for Football Club.

Self-Test
After reading a topic or chapter, I will encourage you to take a self-test. Try a self-test to access your performance and the amount of data you have accumulated by reading. This can be an essay writing like writing an about an entire chapter you just read or taking MCQ challenges online. All are useful and productive. If you feel like you need help, do not hesitate to find one. Always thank the person that offers the help even if they attempted without having a solution.

Sleep
The brain needs to repair damaged tissues and repair is highest when you sleep. So consider sleeping as a luxury but too much sleeping needs prayers. (Kidding)

Confidence
Be confident about yourself and the knowledge you have acquired and break the bond of stress. Confidence does not work in line with stress so stress just have to leave you.

Divide your time using the mark allocation
Enter the exam hall, start with what you know best answer it like a legend and get those marks.
