If you are interested in knowing the number of medical schools in Cameroon then it is appropriate to look at it in two dimensions. What I mean is you have to look at it as a list of public or government medical schools in Cameroon and a list of private medical schools in Cameroon because that is the reality of it. Before 2017, there were 7 medical schools in Cameroon with the oldest being the Faculty of Medical and Biomedical Sciences (FMBS) Yaoundé which was formerly called CCUS Yaoundé but things have changed and almost every region in Cameroon now has a medical school and some have more than one in the region.

How many Medical Schools are in Cameroon

From the year 2017 there grew from 7 to 9 Faculties that where involved in training medical doctors in Cameroon and the training last for 7 years. To get into these schools, you need to write an entrance exam, which is, a single combined exam for all the faculties training doctors in Cameroon and in addition to that, the same exam applies for those that want to become a dentist or a pharmacist in Cameroon. These 3 fields have a 7 years of training.

How many students are needed each year into Medical Schools in Cameroon

Every year, the exam turns to select 960 medical students into first year of the medical training program every year and these students are, distributed between these 9 universities including the private medical schools in Cameroon. Below is a list of all the medical schools in Cameroon and the number of places that are, accepted for each school.

How much is the fee for Medical Schools in Cameroon

Knowing how much it cost to study medicine in Cameroon is important because not all schools have the same fee. Appreciations goes to the head of state for subsidizing the amount each student pays as fee to 50 000 CFA F which is roughly $85 a year for all state universities. 

For the private medical schools, the price removes around the decisions of the schools like for example pharmacy in Universite de Montagne Bagante goes to 1 460 000 CFA F to 1 500 000 a year which gives roughly $2 500 a year.. 

What are the requirements

 

The requirements for the entrance into the first year of education in the Medical Schools for Advanced level students is just Biology and Chemistry and ordinary level Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Math’s with the notion that these subjects were all obtained in the same year. Other legal documents will be required to complete the registration.

For those that had Baccalaureate, the intended series are serie C et D. other legal documents will be, requested to complete the registration process.
